No Context Quotation

‘For that couple of minutes she symbolized everything that is wrong with how we perceive beauty as a society, she was the store bought ideal that drives girls to bulimia and anorexia. She was the skinny thinspiration that helps thirteen year olds put off eating for just one more day, and so I walked over and punched her.’

Joey Corneau: Lockpick Pornography.

I have no context for this quote. From what I can figure out about the book it isn’t something I want to read, but the quote just makes me smile. I like it as a story unto itself. I think if I had the context I wouldn’t find this quote so compelling, I like making up my own heroine and all of the stuff she has lived through to get her to the point where she finally just snaps. Anyway, just thought I would share.

I don't have all of the answers and some weeks it feels like I don't have any of the answers. I often find a good word picture or object lesson and build the lesson off of that instead of the other way around. I don't always pray as much as I should and I never study as much as I should. But I love students ministry. I love watching teenagers as they serve God. I love to see them worship and forget about themselves for a while. I love seeing someone wake up to the love of God if only for a little while. I love to see them out serving their community and sharing the love of Christ with others. I love to be a part of their lives and I love seeing the world through their eyes. I am an average youth minister.
