The $5 Youth Ministry

I haven’t spent much time in the “youth ministry” aisle of my local Christian bookstore lately. I guess there are a number of reasons. For a while there I wanted to refrain from all idea books because I was all excited about writing my own stuff and didn’t want to steal ideas from other people. Of course there were budget concerns and time concerns and just a general idea to do things from my own head for a while.

But recently I picked up this book from Todd Outcalt and I have been thrilled with what I have found. The ideas are different, sometimes daring, and always cheep. There is a nice mix of irreverent and poignant ideas. If you are looking for a few ideas to add to your weekly meeting or some fun low cost games to add to your next big event then be sure to check this book out.

I don't have all of the answers and some weeks it feels like I don't have any of the answers. I often find a good word picture or object lesson and build the lesson off of that instead of the other way around. I don't always pray as much as I should and I never study as much as I should. But I love students ministry. I love watching teenagers as they serve God. I love to see them worship and forget about themselves for a while. I love seeing someone wake up to the love of God if only for a little while. I love to see them out serving their community and sharing the love of Christ with others. I love to be a part of their lives and I love seeing the world through their eyes. I am an average youth minister.
