24 Hour Famine

Tomorrow we start our 24 hour famine. The kids are all up in arms about not eating, but they are only really missing 2 meals (supper and breakfast). I am excited about getting a chance to teach about fasting, but I am most excited about teaching on missions. As much as I have a heart for missions and missionaries I don’t often speak about it to my youth. That is something that I am trying to remedy, and this weekend will be a big part of that. We are having 3 sessions using stuff from the IMB (that is the International Mission Board for you non-Southern Baptist out there). I hope to produce in my students at least a respect for those people who are in other countries telling others about Jesus. My ultimate goal is that one or actually all of them will see the need and follow God’s call to missions. How cool would that be!

I don't have all of the answers and some weeks it feels like I don't have any of the answers. I often find a good word picture or object lesson and build the lesson off of that instead of the other way around. I don't always pray as much as I should and I never study as much as I should. But I love students ministry. I love watching teenagers as they serve God. I love to see them worship and forget about themselves for a while. I love seeing someone wake up to the love of God if only for a little while. I love to see them out serving their community and sharing the love of Christ with others. I love to be a part of their lives and I love seeing the world through their eyes. I am an average youth minister.
