This is a simple praise activity that we used to open up a discussion of God’s healing. Pass out index cards and pens to everyone in your group. You will need enough Band-Aids for everyone in your group. Enlist enough volunteers so that you can pass out the Band-Aids quickly and quietly. During this entire worship experience I played soft guitar music and then transitioned into the song at the end. I also placed both of the verses on the screen as we got to them.
- index cards
- volunteers to pass out the band-aids
Say: You can’t be in this place without a wound on your heart. This is a broken world and we are broken people and as you live through these days then you will be hurt.
What I want you to do is take the index card and pen and find a place where you can be sort of by yourself. In just a moment I am going to pray and then I want you to just place whatever hurt you are dealing with there on your paper. You can write it or just draw a symbol to represent it.
(Give them some time to write and pray)
Isaiah 61:1 says about Jesus ”
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
That is what God is speaking to you right now. He wants you to know that he can bind up your heart.
Jesus’ death on the cross meant that you could be healed of the deep hurts that are on the inside. His death brought you life.
Isaiah 53:5 says
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
Our volunteers are going to move around and give you a band-aid. I need you to raise your hand until you receive one so that they can be sure to get to everyone.
Once you receive your band-aid take it and place it on your paper over the pain that you wrote or drew about. Spend some time in prayer asking God to heal that hurt in your life and invite Him in to make a difference. When you are finished praying, draw a cross on the band-aid to remind you that it is by his suffering that you are healed.
God, came to save us, and the cool thing is, not just in a small band-aid sort of way, but in a deep soul changing sort of way. That is the power of the cross. That is the power of his love for us.
