Book Report

As you can see from my list on the left and from the post below I am reading Chesterson. I am really enjoying this book. It isn’t an easy read, but that is part of the reason I like it. I don’t spend much time reading upper reading level books now that I am out of college and to do so from time to time is refreshing. It also has me writing much longer sentences as you can see by my post below.

I just finished listening to "Memoirs of a Geisha" and really enjoyed the story. That whole world was so foreign to me, and the life of a Geisha so fascinating and at the same time so sad that I was hooked. I keep trying to convince Meredith that we should see the movie just for the costumes alone, but she isn’t buying.

I am also reading Experiential Worship and the more I read the more I think that this book should be required reading for pastor and worship leaders. I think I would put it in the top 5 worship books I have read and in the top 10 of books that church workers should read. Its wholelistic approach to worship (engaging the heat, mind, soul, and body) doesn’t seem like it is that earth shattering, but as I have read I have found so many new insights and ideas. If you are a worship leader pick this up now.

Finally I am reading through the new issue of Relevant magazines. It isn’t high art or anything, but I do feel all hip when I am reading it.

I don't have all of the answers and some weeks it feels like I don't have any of the answers. I often find a good word picture or object lesson and build the lesson off of that instead of the other way around. I don't always pray as much as I should and I never study as much as I should. But I love students ministry. I love watching teenagers as they serve God. I love to see them worship and forget about themselves for a while. I love seeing someone wake up to the love of God if only for a little while. I love to see them out serving their community and sharing the love of Christ with others. I love to be a part of their lives and I love seeing the world through their eyes. I am an average youth minister.
