Vision

My church started a process tonight that will go on over the next few months. We have put together a team of people who are going to evaluate what is happening in our church and come together to see where God is leading us.

Tonight was our first meeting as a group. We started our 2 day on-site retreat with a really cool worship time. It was amazing to feel God in worship, as it always is. I was reminded once again how much worship can happen if I am willing to shut up and create space for God to speak to hearts. In our fast paced, never be quiet world silence is a rare commodity, and when we sit still before God He sometimes opens our eyes to where He is working all around us.

Tonight was a night simply to dream about the future and lay out our first impressions of what we would hope for Calvary Baptist Church to be in 5 years. People shared a whole host of things that were true and neat to hear, but two people building off of each other said a very profound thing that I want to share with you guys. I asked the question, "What would you hope that a typical Calvary Member would look like?"

One woman said, "They would be people who found out what made them unique," and then a man said, "and used that in ministry."

Wow! Isn’t that what we are supposed to be about in the church. We are supposed to be about helping people find what is unique about them and teaching them to use that to glorify God. In a world of churches that are trying to make everyone conform, the true church is about digging in and finding what makes us different and using that for worship and ministry. I want a church full of people who are discovering what makes them unique and learning how they can use their uniqueness in glorifying God.

They discover what makes them unique and use it to minister. Wow!

I don't have all of the answers and some weeks it feels like I don't have any of the answers. I often find a good word picture or object lesson and build the lesson off of that instead of the other way around. I don't always pray as much as I should and I never study as much as I should. But I love students ministry. I love watching teenagers as they serve God. I love to see them worship and forget about themselves for a while. I love seeing someone wake up to the love of God if only for a little while. I love to see them out serving their community and sharing the love of Christ with others. I love to be a part of their lives and I love seeing the world through their eyes. I am an average youth minister.
