How I Met Your Mother

How can a show with what seemed like such an original premise leave that premise and start just being like every other show on TV. If you haven’t seen "How I Met Your Mother" the opening show set up this great chemistry between the main guy who is telling the story and another girl. The show ended with him telling his kids, "and that is how I met your Aunt Karen." Which really made me want to watch the show again and again, mainly because of their relationship.

I was expecting to see a sitcom love story between those 2 characters, but the twist would be that we would always know that they don’t end up together forever. I wanted to watch their chemistry and see how they gelled and then how he eventually met her sister and how his relationship with that character and how the whole switch worked out.

Now don’t get me wrong, I didn’t even want to meet the mother character for at least a whole season, but I was really looking forward to watching a relationship blossom that we knew from the start ultimately wouldn’t work, and if the writers were as good as they seemed to be in the first couple of episodes I thought they could really show me even in the good times the shadows of his real love to come later.

Instead what we are getting right now is just a cute, granted well written, sitcom about 5 friends trying to deal with becoming adults. Without the strained relationship between Karen and the main guy it just doesn’t hold as much appeal for me.

With all of that said, I do think the show is funny, and I think that Barney is the best supporting character since Kramer.

I don't have all of the answers and some weeks it feels like I don't have any of the answers. I often find a good word picture or object lesson and build the lesson off of that instead of the other way around. I don't always pray as much as I should and I never study as much as I should. But I love students ministry. I love watching teenagers as they serve God. I love to see them worship and forget about themselves for a while. I love seeing someone wake up to the love of God if only for a little while. I love to see them out serving their community and sharing the love of Christ with others. I love to be a part of their lives and I love seeing the world through their eyes. I am an average youth minister.
